At the peak of his career and popularity, when asked whether or not he would support a Democratic candidate in his longtime home of North Carolina, Michael Jordan famously declined to do so, explaining: "Republicans buy sneakers, too."
It was partly a jocular statement, but a sincere and profound one: The big man, whose Air Jordan sneakers are sold under the Nike label, recognized the importance of politically neutral role models and spaces.
Meanwhile, today, Nike is (checks notes) actively supporting a doctor who helps young girls chop their breasts off. So that's where we are now.
Join the Human Rights Campaign, Portland Community Football Club's Kaig Lightner, and OSHU Trans Health Program's Dr. Blair Peters for a panel and Q&A to discuss policies impacting the transgender community.
That's right: Nike is partnering up with Blair Peters, a "doctor," if you insist on calling him that, who has publicly admitted to cutting off the breasts of adolescent girls who believe they are boys:
The hospital at which Peters works, meanwhile, has admitted that it offers "gender-affirming health care to patients of all ages."
