Nintendo’s Paper Mario remake retcons an old character as trans

Nintendo's recently released remake of the popular Paper Mario game The Thousand-Year Door will have a nice surprise for the kids: An old character that they decided to trans.

Here's the character in question:

'Truth is, it took me a while to realize I was their sister… not their brother,' Vivian says in the game. 'Now their usual bullying feels heavier.'

You'll note that the reviewer in the video says that in the original Japanese language, Vivian was always a man dressed like a woman.

But in the English translation, that language was interpreted as she was an ugly woman.

The irony here is palpable.

They didn't take a beautiful female character and retcon her to be trans. They took one whose sole identifying quality was being super ugly and chose her to retcon as trans.

(I guess that shows what Nintendo thinks of men wearing women's clothing?)

Still, it‘s disappointing for Nintendo to have jumped onto the trans train into oblivion at all.

Stay vigilant out there, parents.
