The teacher, whose user name on is "Mx. Crack" posed this question to the world of TikTok: What can students say instead of "ma'am" or "sir" to be respectful and gEnDeR iNcLuSiVe?
Well, no wonder her students are confused.
Even their teacher who confidently makes her students refer to her as "Mx" doesn't know what to tell her students to say in this situation.
Her sweet little Texan students obviously mean well and are trying to be respectful to their teacher by answering her "Yes, ma'am" or "No ma'am" just like their mama taught them, but since she doesn't identify as a ma'am that can make things a little awkward for them.
I know this will shock you, but TikTok users haven't been able to provide any definitive solutions to the problem.
So my suggestion to her students is to keep on doing what your mama taught you. Be kind, respectful, and truthful (but do it with a Southern accent).
