The New York Times editorial board felt it necessary to make a public statement this weekend condemning the execution of murderous criminals.
Let's put aside the political timing of this statement for a moment, which follows Joe Biden becoming president after Trump decided to resume federal executions.
Instead, how about we propose a trade?
It gets even more ironic in the linked article when the NYT quotes Gov. Ralph Northam (D-VA), who just ended the death penalty in his state:
In a statement on Wednesday, Virginia's governor, Ralph Northam, said: "Ending the death penalty comes down to one fundamental question, one question: Is it fair? For the state to apply this ultimate, final punishment, the answer needs to be yes. Fair means that it is applied equally to anyone, no matter who they are."
Let's apply that same logic to the issue of abortion.
Is it fair? According to Northam, "for the state to apply this ultimate, final punishment, the answer needs to be yes."
And for legally ending human life, "fair means that it is applied equally to anyone, no matter who they are."
Please note that Northam has previously hinted support for killing unwanted babies AFTER they are born.
Since the NYT and leftists (but I repeat myself) don't even apply their own standards equally, I think we can pass on the meaningless grandstanding.
