We are witnessing record migrant encounters at our southern border, New York Mayor Eric Adams claims the migrant crisis will "destroy New York City," and yet Adams cannot seem to schedule a meeting with President Biden, who is now on vacation in the Caribbean.
A surge at the border, a migrant crisis in our big cities, and yet POTUS is nowhere to be found. Cool, dude. Cool.
Here I thought we had agreed, at least on the Democrat side, that mayors, particularly those representing our big cities, were the future. And now those same mayors can't even squeeze in a meeting with the president?
What's up with that?
Mayor Eric Adams said Tuesday that he's baffled he can't get a meeting with the White House to talk about the Big Apple's burgeoning migrant crisis — even as thousands of asylum seekers arrive in the city every week …
[Adams] also said he'd met with President Biden several times about the issue — back in 2021 and 2022.
But he claimed he hasn't been able to set up meetings since then, even as the number of migrants streaming into New York City has soared.
Interesting. I can't help but think Mayor Adams' anti-migrant rhetoric has something to do with the lack of communication on Washington's end. It was only in the second half of 2022 that Adams became a vocal critic of the immigration crisis that was beginning to tear apart his city.
Apparently, you can't complain about the ruling party any longer without consequences. Here's what Adams had to say about POTUS ghosting him when it comes to official meetings:
"The federal government said to New York City: ‘We're not going to do our job — you do our job. You take care of 4,000 people a week, Eric, you and your team,'" Adams said at a press conference.
"Those who should have been helping us in government — every step of the way, [they] just critiqued us," he lamented. "I'm not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel from the federal government" …
"It baffles me," he told reporters. "I have to keep hammering away at this … and I'm really pleased that we're now getting a chorus of other cities that are joining us."
"That coalition is going to continue to grow because these cities deserve better," he continued. "Cities should not be handling national problems."
16,000 migrants in just the past month, but the mayor of New York City can't even get a meeting with the president.
Shame.
I mean, New York City did want to be a sanctuary city, right? So this is technically a problem of their own making in a sense.
Who knows, maybe once the Bidens are back from their Caribbean vacation, Adams will get a meeting.
Though I wouldn't hold my breath if I were him.
