Raise your hand if you're surprised by this story?
Okay, since I don't see any hands I'll just go ahead and tell you what happened out in New Hampshire.
See, boys jump higher than girls. That's just a fact. So when this popped up on my X feed last week I knew it would only be a matter of time before I had to open up my laptop and write this story.
And now that lil guy has won state in the high jump. A jump that was nearly 10 inches lower than the state championship jump in the boys' division. 5'2" was enough to beat all the girls, but it wouldn't even have qualified in the boys category.
A boy who is a high school sophomore took first place in the girls' high jump competition at the New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association (NHIAA) indoor track and field championship.
For the record, I'm not even mad at the trans-identifying male athlete here — he's got his own set of problems to work out — I'm more upset at the parents — all of them. First off, as the parents of a trans-identifying male, you should know how unfair this is and you should not let your boy compete against the girls. Second, the parents of all those girls who lost to the boy. I'm sorry, but in the future we're going to have to start pulling our girls from these competitions and letting the boy jump by himself. It's maybe the only way to show how absolutely ridiculous this stuff is. Just let the boy feel the awkward.
Here's the jump that won Maelle the state championship.
Here's the New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association eligibility policy:
The NHIAA has an eligibility policy that asserts, "The NHIAA is committed to providing transgender student-athletes with equal opportunities to participate in NHIAA athletic programs consistent with their gender identity. The NHIAA has concluded that it would be fundamentally unjust and contrary to applicable state and federal law to preclude a student from participation on a gender-specific sports team that is consistent with the public gender identity of that student for all other purposes."
Again, not surprising at all.
We're in such weird times, I'm starting to find this stuff somewhat normal. Liberals will tell you that it's not happening; on the conservative side, we're becoming desensitized to it. Therefore, it's still almost as if it doesn't exist. Weird, right?
Keep talking about it. Make jokes about hormones. Make jokes about those disgusting surgeries. Make jokes about men being better at women's sports than women. Make jokes about yourself (if you're a male) winning medals in the women's category.
And if your daughter or niece, or whoever, gets matched up with a boy in one of these competitions tell her to forfeit. Sorry, but that is the way.
Such sad times we live in when quitting is the best option.
I'll leave you with this from Riley Gaines:
