Sister René Parman celebrated her 105th birthday doing what she loves best, playing a round of golf with some of her sisters, a hobby that she's practiced religiously - so to speak - every Friday since the 1980s.

Parman was in her 40s when she first played a round of golf, telling WGN of her first game,

I drove the cart, and they said to me, ‘Why don't you take a chance and just, you know, think about doing it yourself?' ‘What do I do?' [I said]. They said you hit the ball. That was my only instructions that I ever received.

That simple instruction gave her a taste for the game that she hasn't been able to stop, even at 105 years old.

Now Parman is legally blind, but still enjoys the tradition with her friends, saying that they

are kind enough to golf with me and tell me where my ball is when I get there. They tell me how far it is to the hole, and I use that club. Without them, I could not golf.

She went on to say of her time on the golf course,

It's a wonderful place to be — very meditative. It's a beautiful place — grass, flowers and it's quiet.

Sister Parman joined the Humility of Mary Sisters in 1939, when she was just 19. She went on to earn her BSE and MA before serving as a teacher and a principal at various parishes in Ohio during her career.
