If you were planning on traveling to Delhi at some point this week, consider bringing a hazmat suit:

Thankfully, it looks like they got the worst of it contained:

More details:

Sections of the Ghazipur landfill in New Delhi burst into flames on Sunday, causing dangerous heat and methane emissions and adding to India's growing climate challenges.

CNN has to get that climate zinger in there!

By Tuesday, the blaze at the capital's largest landfill had largely been put out, but people living nearby complained of throat and eye irritation due to lingering acrid air, according to local media reports.

The landfill was established in 1984 and is absolutely massive.

The landfill covers an area of approximately 70 acres (28 ha) and reaches heights of over 150 feet (46 m). Ghazipur has become one of the largest landfills in the world. The landfill reached its maximum capacity in 2002, however it continues to receive solid waste from the city of Delhi.

The cause of the fire is reportedly still under investigation. Fires are a semi-regular occurrence on the trash pile because, well, waste management in India is a bit lacking (to put it nicely).
