It's gonna be a bloodbath.
Yeah, apparently Disney is coming out with another Brie Larson film that everyone will hate, but it's sUpEr diVeRsE with more girl bosses (SLAY, QUEENS!) so the execs in charge of the M-SHE-U are probably patting themselves on the back for a job well done.
(Disney sure knows how to ruin entire franchises, don't they?)
Check out these numbers:
There was hope that "The Marvels," which arrives in theaters Friday, might build on the box-office success of "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3″ earlier this year. But there's a strong chance it could have one of the lowest opening weekends in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Initial predictions saw the film opening at between $75 million and $80 million domestically, but those figures have shrunk to a range between $60 million and $65 million in recent weeks. No MCU film has opened in that range since 2011, according to data from Comscore.
That's rough. Very rough, especially since the first Captain Marvel film opened to $153 million in the US.
(Remember how big the budgets are for these films!)
Here's the trailer for this sterling box-office success:
CNBC says the conclusion of the Thanos arc in "Endgame" is the reason for the drop off in interest, which shows that CNBC has no clue what's going on.
What's actually happening is that no one cares about woke movies that are 2-hour lectures in intersectional feminism and Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity initiatives.
Disney has ruined Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Marvel in 10 years and it's honestly quite impressive. At one point, the fans cared - angry fans are fans, after all - but now, no one really gives a crud. No one wants to go watch intersectional cosplayers fight aliens in tights with thinly-veiled references to the evils of white men and Donald Trump.
But, as usual, CNBC also says Disney "saturated the market with hit-or-miss television series" via its Disney+ streaming service, which is always the excuse but never the case.
Marvel and Star Wars fans would LOVE more content. People used to line up to get the newest Star Wars book in the extended universe. These used to be groundbreaking, fun, cool franchises that gave people fictional role models, villains, and adventures that taught them important lessons on good vs. evil while also allowing them to escape from the craziness of life.
It's not that these fans have too much content; it's that they can't stomach TRASH.
Especially with Brie Larson, feminist extraordinaire, as a lead.
Not many people wanna line up for that kinda "star" power!
Critics, meanwhile, have complained that The Marvels is, variously, "paper thin," "charmless" and "pandering in all the wrong places." That's pretty bad, considering Rotten Tomatoes changed its entire website to try to protect the first film from all the audience backlash!
I'll leave you with this hilarious analysis on how badly this movie will flop because it's funnier and more entertaining than any MCU film has been for years:
