Parents shut down a Californian high school’s plan to open a Planned Parenthood clinic on campus in a mostly Hispanic community

Parents and pro-life protestors rallied outside a board meeting on Monday for the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District to oppose a Planned Parenthood clinic that would be installed inside a high school.

The board was planning on voting on whether to open the clinic at John Glenn High School in Norwalk, which serves a community that is 80% Hispanic, but took the proposal off the table because of the protests—at least temporarily.

"The Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District Board of Education will postpone discussion of Board Agenda Item #12a regarding the Planned Parenthood clinic at John Glenn High School," the district said in a statement.

Of course, coverage of the protests in California was mostly negative with lots of references to "far-right extremists."

Just look at all those violent protestors burning stuff down and throwing bricks…

Oops, sorry! Wrong extremists.

That joke never gets old.

The "far-right" extremists at the event stood patiently and actually peacefully in line to have their say at the school board meeting.

The crowd responded brusquely but civilly to questions from reporters covering the event (flowerbed warnings).

The controversial proposal is part of Planned Parenthood's plan to put 50 clinics in high schools, which they ironically call "Well Being Centers."

Planned Parenthood says the centers will not provide abortions or hormone therapy directly, but students would be referred to clinics that do, and California law says abortions and gender transition therapy can be performed without parental consent.

In-house services at the high school centers would include providing pharmaceuticals like medications for STDs, birth control, and abortive pills, as well as prophylactics, including the insertion of permanent IUDs, all of which can have major medical side effects.

As far as the clinic at John Glenn High School goes, parents won this round, but it's almost certain the item will come up on the agenda again, probably at an unannounced emergency meeting of the board.
