Friday the 13th started out as a very unlucky day for April Schmitt after she lost the diamond from her engagement ring at the luggage carousel in the Pittsburgh International Airport.

Schmitt had caught her hand in between her suitcase and the edge of the carousel when she went to grab her luggage, but quickly pulled it out, and didn't realize the diamond had been knocked loose until she was in the car on her way home.

She told KDKA,

It was devastating. I mean, I literally felt sick to my stomach as soon as I realized.

As soon as she discovered the diamond was missing, she turned around and went back to the airport, and began searching around the luggage carousel. Four airport employees soon joined her in the search.

The five of them searched for over an hour, even removing some of the panels to look inside the carousel, but Schmitt eventually gave up and went home empty-handed.

Then four hours later, she got a call from the airport that her diamond had been found.

The maintenance employees had continued the search without her, eventually getting the diamond with two taped-together paint sticks they used to clean out beneath the machine.

One of the workers, electrician Steve Turkaly, said of the find,

It really felt good, I mean to see the expression on her face, it made it all worth it

To make this story even crazier, Schmitt was proposed to with the ring on another Friday the 13th back in March of 1992, and then married her husband on Friday the 13th in November of that year!

Schmitt told KDKA,

It restored my faith in humanity, honestly. These men didn't know me at all. They knew nothing about how long I've been married. They knew nothing about my husband or the stone or the sentimental value or the economic value, but that didn't matter; they were just committed to doing the right thing.
