H-1B visas were designed to bring over the best and brightest, high-skilled immigrants from other countries to help American industry grow.

However, in recent years some right-wingers complained about abuse of the visa system.

And it seems President Trump has heard the complaints of his base.

Here's the description of the order:

One of the most abused visas systems in our current immigration system has been the H-1B non-immigrant visa program. This is supposed to allow highly skilled laborers who work in fields that Americans don't work in to come into the United States of America.

What this proclamation will do is raise the fee that companies pay to sponsor H-1B applicants to $100,000. This will ensure that the people we're bringing in are actually very highly skilled and that they're not replaceable by American workers. So it will protect American workers, but insure that companies have a pathway to hire truly extraordinary people and bring them to the United States.

H-1B visa fees used to be a couple of thousand dollars. This is a significant increase.

Of course, the policy is controversial in MAGA Land, as seen Christmas last year.

And while this doesn't end the H-1B program, President Trump has made it clear that he wants the visa to be used for Elon Musk-types. Highly exceptional foreign workers who can greatly benefit the US economy.

We'll see how this plan works out.
