I'm not sure when woodpecker hunting season is, but I'll bet the residents of Rockport, Massachusetts would like it to be today, right now:
A frisky bird weathering mating season has taken aim at dozens of cars in a Massachusetts town — leaving residents shielding their vehicles from the feathered menace's sharp beak, according to reports.
The pesky two-month mystery behind at least 25 punctured and shattered sideview mirrors and windshields in Rockport was recently cracked when a local caught the pileated woodpecker in the act.
I don't know about those folks but if it were me I'd be opening my gun safe right about now like:

The brazen little monster is just doing it right out in the open, too!
I mean, these aren't exactly cheap repairs. You might be able to call Safelight to get your windshield fixed, but repairing a side-view mirror — that's a trip to the dealership and probably a stiff $600 at least.
So what's causing this violent bird to savagely assault the neighborhood vehicles? Well, apparently this guy is out to kill the competition:
"Of course, they're not interested in the other males being around, so they will attack males and try to scare them away, get them to go away or go somewhere else. And this often or can include attacking mirror images of themselves, including windows and cars," [local birder Donna] Cooper said.
Dude sees himself in the mirror like:

This town better liberalize its hunting laws ASAP!
