Rapper Daddy Yankee says he's devoting his life to Jesus Christ 🙌

This kind of news never fails to quite literally lift the spirit:

The Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee has announced he will be retiring from music in order to devote his life to Jesus Christ.

Daddy Yankee — whose real name is Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez — made the announcement at a concert Sunday in Puerto Rico as well as on social media.

The man's witness was picture-perfect:

"Tonight I recognize and am not ashamed to tell the whole world that Christ lives in me and that I will live for him. This is the end of one chapter and the beginning of a brand new one."

Amen brother.

It's a good day. As St. Luke writes, "there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents" (Lk 15:10). And the public conversion of a celebrity like Daddy Yankee can have redounding effects throughout society: Their visibility means Christ's message can be spread far and wide, saving even more in the process.

The rapper, who said he will now go by his birth name Ramón Ayala, appears to have recognized the limits of his own celebrity; at his concert he quoted the Gospel of Matthew: "For what good is it for a man to gain the whole world, if he loses his life?"

"All the tools that I have in my possession such as music, social networks, platforms, a microphone — everything that Jesus gave me — is now for his kingdom," he said.

That's the way to do it, Ramón! God be with you!
