Sometimes we need a break from the bad news, so thanks for joining me.
Are you ready to say "Awww?"
A 25-year-old elephant in Sri Lanka gave birth to twins on Tuesday!
Congrats, mama!
The twins, both boys, were born at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage in the central hills of the country. The mother's name is Surangi and the father is a 17-year-old resident of the orphanage named Pandu, a spokesperson told Reuters.
Not only is this adorable, but twins are very rare. The last time a domesticated elephant gave birth to twins was 80 years ago, in 1941.
Local Hiru TV media showed how Surangi is taking care of her calves, who are already on their feet, eating leaves, and living their best lives. ๐
The Pinnawala Orphanage is one of Sri Lanka's biggest tourist attractions and was first started in 1975 to care for and treat rescued or injured wild elephants.
Talk about identical twins! They look exactly the same to me...
