Not long ago, we ran a story about Jerry Martin, a Canadian who wanted to take his illegal drug dealing to the next level with a brick-and-mortar store.
Authorities in the province of British Columbia decriminalized all hard drugs, but still made it illegal to sell them, a fine point that Martin overlooked. Unfortunately for him, within 24 hours of the story about his drug store breaking, Martin was arrested, his drugs seized, and his shop closed.
His lawyer sprung him almost immediately, but he was banned by police from returning to the Downtown Eastside (though he said he was still planning on opening a pop-up store to sell clean drugs).
As fate would have it, his entrepreneurial plans were cut short as he was found unresponsive by his partner Krista Thomas and rushed to the hospital. Martin was addicted to cocaine, but as he hoped to help others avoid, he got a batch laced with fentanyl.
Martin passed away last week from the fentanyl overdose.
