Republicans introduce the "Unborn Child Support Act" that would allow moms to receive child support payments before giving birth

Senators Marco Rubio and Kevin Cramer, along with Rep. Mike Johnson, have introduced a bill which would expand the Social Security Act to ensure women would receive child support starting at conception.

Senator Cramer said in a statement,

Caring for the well-being of our children begins long before a baby is born. It begins at the first moment of life โ€“ conception โ€“ and fathers have obligations, financial and otherwise, during pregnancy. Mothers should be able to access child support payments as soon as she is supporting a child. Our bill makes this possible.

In addition to adding payments for the approximately 9 months of life before the child is born, fathers would also be required to make payments retroactively in cases where paternity is not established until after birth.

In theory, this is something that Democrats and Republicans should be able to agree on. This law could alleviate many of the reasons women find themselves considering abortion, including abandonment and financial insecurity. After all, many of the pro-choice arguments center around the fact that pregnancy is a burden that falls exclusively on the woman. Or "birthing person," if you will.

But of course, there are those on the Left who think that expecting fathers to provide for their children is almost as repressive as expecting moms not to kill them.

(Not to mention the mere thought of referring to the unborn child as, you know, an unborn child.)

One abortion activist referred to the use of "personhood language" as problematic.

Senator Rubio said,

We should do everything we can to support American mothers and their children. This bill would allow expecting mothers to prepare and support their babies before they are born.

I could see how some of his language here could be viewed as problematic if you're living in total denial. Words like "mother" "child" and "babies." Very sneaky there, Marco.

Just earlier this year, Democratic Rep. Forrest Bennett of Oklahoma introduced a very similar bill.

Only he was trying to be funny.

The other side understands so little about pro-lifers!
