China says Taiwan is "part of Chinese territory" and that it will unleash "firm and strong measures" if America gets involved 😬

It's no secret that the Chinese Communist Party is single-mindedly determined to bring Taiwan back under its control. It's a major part of Xi Jinping's domestic policy and a neurotic fixation of the country's communist party elite—they call it "reunification."

So let's just say these sorts of pronouncements are a worrying sign that Chinese leadership is growing bolder about the issue:

Taiwan is a part of China and no one can change that, Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe said on Wednesday during a rare phone call with U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, according to a statement from Beijing.

"If the Taiwan issue were not handled properly, it would have a damaging impact on Sino-U.S. relations," Wei added, according to statement published by the defence ministry."

Here's what Communist leadership specifically said on the matter:

Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory. The Taiwan question concerns China's core interests and brooks no foreign interference. China urges the US to abide by the one-China principle and the stipulations of the three China-US joint communiques, revoke the arms sales plan and stop military ties with Taiwan, to avoid causing further damage to the relations between the two countries and their militaries. The Chinese People's Liberation Army will take firm and strong measures to thwart any form of interference by external forces and separatist attempts for "Taiwan independence", and resolutely defend China's national sovereignty and security interests.

It's not a great omen.

Good thing we have a strong, firm lineup of leaders in the U.S. willing to defend a sovereign country from communist invasion! Right? Right?
