Remember last year when Biden famously said, "Gimme a break! Anybody who can throw coal into a furnace can learn how to program for God's sake," and his remarks were summarily dismissed as condescending, ignorant, and out of touch?
Even some of his Democrat rivals openly dismissed the notion.
"Let them do the kind of work they actually want to do, instead of saying to a group of people that you all need to become coders. … Maybe Americans don't all want to learn how to code." — Andrew Yang, former Democrat candidate for president
Well, former Chicago mayor and Obama WH chief of staff, Rahm Emmanuel, has apparently decided to pick up a stick to keep beating that dead horse.
"Give them the tools, 'Six months, you're going to become a computer coder. We'll pay for it.' And you'll get millions of people to sign up for that."
Says journalist Peter Houck, "He actually said this. Amazing."
One classic reply …
But seriously, what will all these millions of new coders do for work when, after endless lockdowns, there are literally zero companies left standing to write code for?
Oh wait, maybe by that point we can just train all those out of work coders to mine coal!
Let's hope, if we indeed end up, after all the counts and recounts, with a Biden administration, that they can somehow broaden their vision for getting Americans back to work. I mean, "Gimme a break!"
