This might be the least surprising news of the year right here.
Prosecutors say that the illegal immigrant who was arrested for shooting a Jewish man on his way to a Chicago synagogue last month — before screaming "Allahu Akbar" and then shooting at law enforcement — had planned out other potential targets, including synagogues, Jewish schools, and community centers in the city's Jewish neighborhood, West Rogers Park.
An illegal immigrant accused of shooting a Jewish man on his way to synagogue in Chicago last month and then shooting at police and paramedics previously mapped out the locations of synagogues, Jewish schools, and community centers in the predominantly Jewish area of West Rogers Park before the attack.
On Friday, prosecutors said, at a detention hearing, that 22-year-old Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi used his cellphone to identify potential targets in the area before the October 26 shooting ...
Assistant State's Attorney Anne McCord Rodgers said, 'This was not anything but a planned attack … an attempted assassination of these people. This was a calculated plan, on a public street… and an attempted slaughter of that person and law enforcement officers.'
During a detention hearing for the 22-year-old Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi on Friday, Judge Susana Ortiz ordered him to remain in custody on charges of attempted murder, hate crimes, and terrorism.
Seems relevant to remind everyone that immediately after the attack, local Chicago law enforcement refused to describe the attack as a hate crime or an act of terrorism ... even though Abdallahi screamed "Allahu Akbar" after trying to murder a Jewish man on the way to synagogue.
According to prosecutors, Abdallahi's phone was also crammed full of anti-Jewish and pro-Hamas content.
So I guess now they've gathered enough information to label this attack a hate crime.
Great work, Chicago PD!!
