Let me be clear: SNL is uber lefty itself, so the clip wasn't trying to be based in any way, shape, or form.
Obama was wrapping up his drone-strike career by fighting ISIS in Iraq and Syria and SNL was cashing in on that by spoofing a Toyota ad with an absurdist segment that was meant to be stupid/silly, not some commentary on higher ed.
It actually caused a ruckus in woke circles when it aired:
But now we live in 2024, where the same Islamist screeds preached by ISIS are being repeated on college campuses across America.
SNL was ahead of its time and it didn't even know it!!
