The leader of South Korea's main Democratic opposition party was stabbed in the neck during a campaign stop Monday by an unidentified man.
The man wore a paper crown with the politician's name on it, and lured Lee Jae-myung in by asking for an autograph.
[Warning: There is no visible blood in these two videos, but they display graphic violence.]
The stabbing left a 1-centimeter-long gash on Lee's neck, and he was conscious when a helicopter airlifted him to a local hospital. Other than that, we're not entirely sure what his status is.
Lee is the leader of South Korea's Democratic Party, and was narrowly defeated in his 2022 bid for the presidency. South Korea will hold legislative elections on April 10.
This attack, unfortunately, is a common occurrence in South Korea, Lee's predecessor having been attacked by an assailant with a blunt object back in 2022. Conservative opposition leader Park Geun-hye was attacked with a knife in 2006. Park would later become president.
We'll keep an eye on Lee's health as that blade came awfully close to the jugular.
Wishing him good health.
