Americans love their dogs so much that they'll form a convoy to help a random one (and a chihuahua at that!) escape the expressway!
Another angle:
WHATCHU DOIN' OUT THERE, BEAN??
Expressways are no place for a dog!
So Bean apparently lives MILES from this expressway and his owner has no clue how he got there. It all started when the owner was taking him on a walk and he was startled by a pit bull, deciding to make a run for it.
"It's a Christmas miracle," Tee Richardson of Stapleton said after her family was reunited with their beloved Chihuahua, Bean, who was rescued by a host of good Samaritans last week after he got loose on the Staten Island Expressway.
...
"I don't really know how he got on the highway," Richardson said, noting the distance from her neighborhood to the expressway is a few miles by car — a long journey by paw.
Although the owner does not definitively know how the dog got to the expressway, she assumes that someone saw Bean running and tried to grab him, since Bean was found without his collar.
The owner speculates the spunky purebred might have bitten whoever tried to take him and jumped onto the highway from a vehicle.
Here's a photo of Bean reunited with his hooman:
