Steve Bannon found guilty of contempt of Congress for refusing to appear before the January 6 Committee

Steve Bannon, a former Trump strategist, former chair of Breitbar, and host of the popular radio show War Room, was found guilty by a jury for contempt of Congress. Bannon refused to appear before or submit any documents to the January 6th Committee despite subpoenas ordering him to do so, as they desperately try to pin the events that occurred at the Capitol Building on President Trump.

Molly Gaston, a prosecutor for the Justice Department, argued that he didn't want to be part of the show trial.

"[Bannon] didn't want to recognize Congress' authority or play by the government's rules. Our government only works if people show up and play by the rules and are held accountable when they do not.

"When he chose to defy a congressional subpoena, that was a crime," Gaston continued. "The defendant chose allegiance to Donald Trump over compliance with the law."

Bannon did not testify, and his lawyers called no witnesses. The only thing Bannon said, he uttered on the stairs of the courthouse.

In the courtroom, his defense argued that the entire case was a political stunt, pointing out that the prosecution's evidence was based on the testimony of one witness, a January 6th Committee staffer named Kristen Amerling. Bannon's defense then showed that Amerling and the prosecutor had a long relationship that went back 15 years, trying to show a Democratic conspiracy.

But I'm not sure what good that would have done anyway. This was Washington DC after all. Any case tried by a jury there that is in any way connected to Donald Trump has gone for the Democrats every time, regardless of the evidence presented. The majority of residents there are politically active bureaucrats.

In jury selection for the Bannon trial, prospective jurors said amazing things like

"Remaining impartial would be ‘a challenge' since I do believe (Bannon) is guilty."

At least that one was honest enough to say that he had prejudged Bannon.

Now that Bannon's guilty status has been officially announced by the party, he faces a minimum of 30 days or 1 year in prison, and a fine of between $100 and $100,000.

Bannon is expected to appeal the verdict.

This is Bannon's second run in with the Democratic machine after he faced Federal charges for collecting money with a nonprofit to raise funds to continue building President Trump's wall but allegedly using it for personal expenses.

President Trump granted him clemency as his final act in office and cleared Bannon of all charges.
