Remember when late-night comedy was funny instead of dour, fearful, angry, and partisan?
They've been using their platforms to air emotional temper tantrums over politics, and after Trump's massive landslide victory on Tuesday, the reactions from these former comedians were priceless.
Here's Jimmy Kimmel delivering a gut-busting monologue about the "terrible night" with tears in his eyes:
Not to be outdone, here's the hilarious Stephen Colbert saying "The deep loss and sense of shock is enormous."
Seth Meyers did the best job of keeping it together. He didn't once break down crying while delivering a dour monologue about Trump's "military-style roundups of migrants and using the power of the state to crush his opponents."
So I was watching results, and I knew I would be here a few hours later to talk about it, and I couldn't help but think - and this is genuine - what a privilege. What a privilege to be here with you, to be here with my colleagues, to not feel alone.
This is a joyful place to work, and we hope you can see the joy when you're watching at home. We're not going to let anything take that joy away, even if we're talking about things that are not particularly joyful.
Not particularly joyful?
Seth, a majority of the American people are happy with the election results. A historic majority, nonetheless!
And Jimmy Fallon ... well, Jimmy Fallon was just cringe.
Well guys, last night America decided to get back with a crazy ex and elect Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States. No matter who you voted for I think we can all agree that it's going to be a rough Thanksgiving.
Great comedy, guys. Side-splitting stuff. Keep those hilarious jokes coming!
