This is pretty cool. Team Chaplain Steve Watson is leading a spiritual revival at Arizona State, leading Bible study and pregame chapel for both the baseball and football teams.
I show up and I give them the Word of God and the Word of God is what's working on this team.
Steve is the team chaplain for the football and baseball teams and also the director of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization at ASU in Phoenix.
He's seen over ten players baptized over the past year since he's taken the role.
Here's how he describes his role on LinkedIn:
After an 8 year career in medical sales, I have been called to serve and lead others through The Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Arizona State University. Growing up in a sports world, I have been fortunate to witness the impact that sports can have on someone's life through my own experiences and through watching sports transform others. I have also witnessed the great transformative power of the Gospel and its ability to mold men and women into who God intended them to be. FCA focuses on serving local communities around the globe by engaging, equipping and empowering coaches and athletes to unite, inspire and change the world through the gospel.
He took the role last year, and then ASU nearly upset Texas in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff (Texas needing two overtimes to win the game).
Watson has a bunch of student-athletes attending church and Bible study together, and it's a snowball effect with more and more joining as they see their teammates following Christ.
You love to see stuff like this impacting our young people!
Jesus is making a comeback at ASU, and I'd love to see this trend take off at other universities.
