If you want a car that can accelerate to 60mph in 1.1 seconds flat, you might want to check out Tesla's new $200,000 Roadster. That is, unless you have a medical condition, according to Papa Elon:
If you're wondering if there's a site that ranks the acceleration of various roller coasters so you can see how the Roadster compares, of course there is.
Here's the catch though: If you don't want to be stuck with a measly zero-to-sixty in 1.9 seconds, you'll have to choose the more expensive "SpaceX rocket thruster" package that assists with acceleration and turns:
Such thrusters don't use combustion; instead, they are cold gas thrusters that use compressed air. They are typically used for maneuvers on spacecraft.
Check out this animation showing what that might look like:
Elon previously said the car would be able to fly "a little" in "short hops."
I'm sure nothing could possibly go wrong with a superpowered electric car flying through the air at insane speeds, but this is awesome so let's not think about that.
