So that 11-foot-tall bronze RoboCop statue in Detroit that started as a meme is finally complete and it looks AWESOME. Problem is, it already needs a new home.

Way back in 2011, someone tweeted at Detroit Mayor Dave Bing that what the city really needed was a statue of '80s movie character RoboCop

Seems like a pretty good idea to me 🤷‍♂️

Mayor Bing rejected the idea, but the meme was strong and Detroit filmmaker Brandon Walley decided it needed to happen, Bing or not. Now, 10 years later, the statue is finally complete.

And, my friends, she's a beaut!

That sucker is 11 feet tall and weighs over 3,500 pounds! Walley and friends ended up crowdfunding the project and raised more than $65,000 for it initially.

The problem they are facing now is that the Michigan Science Center, which had previously agreed to be the home of the bronze monstrosity, had to back out.

"Given the pandemic's unprecedented pressures MiSci's resources must now be entirely focused on our core mission of serving Michigan's students and families."

Walley and crew aren't worried, though. "Right now, we're just celebrating that he's done and he looks great," he told The Detroit News. "A structure like that, with the prep work for the base, it needs to be warmer weather anyway."

It's actually a pretty awesome story all around, with a lot of ups and downs. Definitely worth a read if you're into '80s nostalgia, Detroit, or just—you know—statuary in general.
