Decades ago, in the midst of the brutal destruction wrought upon his country by the Nazi war machine, Winston Churchill urged his countrymen: "Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never." The prime minister would probably be gratified to learn that, in the 21st century, the U.S. government is taking that advice to heart. After several weeks ago urging the Taliban to form an "inclusive" government in Afghanistan, the Biden State Department is, well, still doing that:
It's a bold move on Biden's part, and one that's sure to pay off, for the Taliban anyway. The writer Christopher Rufo, meanwhile, had some great advice for the State Department in the realm of multilateral coalition building:
That's the way to do it. We'll know the gamble has succeeded when the Taliban starts referring to itself as the Talibxn.
