That's right: Super Bowl LVI might not be played in the sunny totalitarian wasteland that is Southern California!
The NFL is actively looking at the availability of venues to host Super Bowl LVI on Feb. 13, should the event not go on as planned, WFAA reports.
SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California is currently scheduled to host the 56th Super Bowl, but COVID-19 concerns could derail those plans. The Cowboys and the league have reportedly had preliminary discussions about AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas serving as an emergency site to host the event, amid COVID-19 restrictions in California.
That is a ton of money at stake right there.
I have to feel sorry for the business owners in SoCal. Not only have they been taxed to the extreme, locked down for two years, and subjected to piles of human waste and used needles wherever they go, but now they might lose all the revenue the Super Bowl would bring.
Here was the statement from NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy:
We plan on playing Super Bowl LVI as scheduled at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 13. As part of our standard contingency planning process that we conduct for all regular and postseason games, we have contacted several clubs to inquire about stadium availability in the event we cannot play the Super Bowl as scheduled due to weather-related issues or unforeseen circumstances.
Our planning process for the Super Bowl in Los Angeles is ahead of schedule and we look forward to hosting the Super Bowl there to culminate another fantastic NFL season for our fans and clubs.
City officials in Arlington, Texas said that the NFL had indeed contacted them about being a backup for the championship game. The Cowboys stadium was used for the 2021 Rose Bowl after being moved out of California because of Covid restrictions.
I gotta say, celebrating the Super Bowl at a venue that requires proof of vaccination, masks, and no fun at all seems a little less attractive than a place where we can celebrate the annual culmination of warriors battling it out on the field like normal humans.
It would be super embarrassing if the Rams are in the Super Bowl though and it gets moved out of their stadium!
