We live in a wild world, fam.
So here's the deets: The leader of Hamas, Khalid Mashal, called for Friday to be a day of "sacrifice" across the world - you know, normal "kill the infidels" stuff.
But good ol' Khalid, like most revolutionary leaders, doesn't actually live among his people. He's over in the plush terror-sponsoring kingdom of Qatar, which is a tiny little peninsula that juts off the Arabian Gulf.
Khalid broadcasted his message from his plush crib there in the city of Doha, which immediately sent the world on high alert, and for good reason. As of this morning, there has been one teacher killed by a jihadi in France, an Israeli employee stabbed at the Israeli embassy in Beijing, and mass police action with Jordanian protesters trying to breach the Israeli border and get into the Palestinian West Bank.
In New York, which has the largest population of Jews outside Israel (10% of NYC), security has been beefed up to the max.
So every cop's boot is on the beat in NYC today. Anyone who had vacation had to cancel.
There's only one person missing: NYPD Comissioner Eddie Caban, who is also in Doha, Qatar:
Minister of Interior and Commander of Lekhwiya Force Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani met yesterday at Lusail International Circuit with Commissioner of the New York Police Department Eddie Caban, who is visiting the country. During the meeting, they discussed a number of topics of common concern.
Basically, Eddie is in Doha to share [checks notes] best police and administrative practices with [checks notes] Arab leaders in the Middle East.
Because that makes sense. Somehow.
More from the NY Post:
Caban, who sources say is visiting the Middle Eastern country for a two-day "Arab Tourism Security Forum," was noticeably absent from Thursday's City Hall briefing where officials discussed the NYPD's decision to ramp up patrols out of "an abundance of caution."
The overseas trip by the city's top cop was unannounced and multiple City council members told The Post they only learned Caban was in Qatar Thursday evening when First Deputy Commissioner Tania Kinsella casually mentioned it during a security briefing.
"This is one heck of a time to be out of town," one Council member told The Post. "If I were him, I would have been on the first plane back home to 1PP," the lawmaker said, referring to the NYPD headquarters in Lower Manhattan.
I'm not implying the NYC Police Commissioner is in Doha to scheme with an Islamic terror leader about a worldwide plot to attack Jews in an effort to start WW3.
It'd make a heck of a Bond movie though!!
I still like to pump the brakes on conspiracy thinking these days, even after all the conspiracies of the last three years coming true, but I do find it weird that New York's police commissioner is out of town at the very moment New York is most on edge over the last 2 decades, whether the danger is real or just perceived.
And even if he weren't in the same city as Hamas' leader, WHY QATAR??
If you know a thing or two about the Middle East, Qatar is the middle man for all hostage negotiations and other nefarious deals made by Islamic terrorists from Kenya to Iran to Afghanistan. They are the ones who are releasing the $6 billion to Iran that Joe Biden approved (though they paused that transaction this morning).
In theory, it's not much different than the UAE/Dubai, but everyone knows that Doha is the Zurich of Muslim terrorists looking to fund their operations.
Just seems like an odd place for the good guys to go for a security conference.
