You know, I think we need a little more common sense in our country.
Especially in our military!
We've got employees at the Pentagon hooking up government computers to Chinese servers to play around on the latest AI chatbot program.
Could we be any less serious in our military?
The Defense Information Systems Agency, which is responsible for the Pentagon's IT networks, moved to block access to the Chinese startup's website late Tuesday, the official and another person familiar with the matter said. Both asked not to be named because the information isn't public.
It took at least two days before someone in the DoD IT department said, "Hey, maybe we shouldn't be giving China potential backdoor access to the Pentagon!"
Hegseth has got his work cut out with this crew, doesn't he?
The Pentagon's IT experts are still determining the extent to which employees directly used DeepSeek's system through a web browser, the official said.
US military personnel started downloading an earlier release of DeepSeek code on their workstations in the fall of 2024, according to the person familiar with the matter. At the time, the downloads didn't raise concern with Defense Department security teams as the connection to China wasn't clear to them, the person added.
Yeah, I hate to be that guy, but how does the Pentagon NOT know a site is connected to China until months after your employees begin accessing the site?
It seems like you should be white-listing sites one by one if you work for the government and not allow employees, especially at the Pentagon, to just try out the latest online technology willy nilly.
It's absolutely crazy that we have to deal with this level of incompetence all the way up the line.
