This play did not work as intended, but it's one of the most creative special teams strategies I've seen in a long time. Watch USC's punt team try to throw Arizona's punt returner at the ball as it rolls down the field after the punt, keeping in mind that if a member of the return team touches the ball, it's fair game and up for grabs for whoever can get their paws on it.
Okay, I think I like this idea.
Then again, how does USC get away with those three separate holding penalties?
I'm assuming those would've been called if these referees had seen anything even remotely close to this throw-the-return-man-on-the-ball strategy coming.
A great strategy, but it needs some adjustments.
