Just when we thought public schools couldn't get any worse, the USDA announced that chocolate milk, one of public school's only redeeming factors, may soon be expelled from school cafeterias across the nation.
Flavored milks contain a lot of sugar, and as school cafeterias attempt to provide healthy options to students, chocolate and strawberry milk just don't make the cut.
The USDA is weighing the options on eliminating or limiting the sugary drink, either banning it from all elementary and middle schools (high schoolers can still get fat I guess), or requiring schools to provide milk with a limited amount of added sugars.
They do have a third option, however, which would be to let parents tell their own children how often they can indulge in a delicious drink filled with Calcium, potassium, and Vitamin D. But that would just be too much responsibility for parents.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Get your kids out of public school.
The USDA is expected to make a decision early next year, so there's still time to let your voices be heard and fight for your children's right to a taxpayer-subsidized cold, refreshing glass of chocolatey goodness.
