These college students built a raft out of plywood, kiddie pools, buckets, and duct tape, then got themselves stranded off the coast of California

So this story is amazing, and if you know anything about Isla Vista you know that the place is a huge party town. The kids at UC Santa Barbara know how to rage, that's for sure. So naturally when you look at this story…

...you'll think alcohol must've been involved, right?

NOPE, NOT AT ALL!

WOW!

I truly cannot believe that.

These college kids built this raft (someone please explain the buckets... on second thought, you'll have to explain the kiddie pools too) and set sail around 2 a.m.

Seems legit to me!

The two boys involved made it past the breaking waves, which is pretty impressive. Then, as luck would have it, they were pulled over 300 yards out to sea by the riptide. They kept drifting and drifting, and probably assumed they'd be stranded for days.

These boys didn't have wet suits or anything. Just a paddle. And the water was cold (just below 60 degrees).

Luckily, someone spotted them and alerted the proper authorities.

Something tells me that the person who called 911 might somehow be connected to the two boneheads who were out at sea. But that's just my guess. Either way, help was on the way.

At 2:37 a.m., a rescue crew arrived and the boys were saved.

I'm sure the members of the rescue crew were just as surprised to learn about the lack of booze.
