Don't get me wrong, it's very wrong to scare any chickens to death but to scare 1,100 of them to death is also pretty impressive.
And yet, that's just what a man, known by his last name Gu, did after a year-long dispute with his neighbor, chicken farmer Zhong.
According to Zhong, the feud began in April of last year after Gu cut down trees on the Zhong property without permission. Gu (the person cutting down other people's trees) was angered when Zhong's wife had the trees removed from their property.
Gu, being the apparent crazy person that he is, sought retaliation by scaring their chickens with a flashlight.
His scare tactics were so successful that 500 chickens attempted to flee from the light and trampled one another to death in their panic to escape.
Police arrested Gu and gave him a fine and sent him on his merry way.
At this point in the story, you could argue that he was merely trespassing and the chickens were so dumb they killed each other incidentally, which would be more akin to manslaughter rather than premeditated murder. But oh no, the story does not end there.
Gu's thirst for revenge was apparently yet unsatisfied, because he came back a second time, causing an additional 640 chickens to perish.
This time around, a court in the Hunan province sentenced him to six months in prison, and one year of probation, but I have a feeling we haven't heard the last of Gu. In six months' time he'll be back in his home next to the chicken farm and I have no doubt this saga will continue!
