This family got bailed out by Disney in the end, but this story is hilarious (and painful).
Grandma and grandpa — you gotta love 'em — decided they'd try to save some money on this 16-person family Christmas trip to Disney, so they went out to Sam's Club to purchase some Disney gift cards which are marked down 25%. For the trip, they needed $10,000, so, naturally, they bought $10,000 worth of gift cards so they could spend them at the park and save like $2,500.
Only one problem with those gift cards…
Those are Disney+ gift cards.
70 years worth of Disney+ gift cards.
They do not work at Disney parks.
SO GRANDMA AND GRANDPA HAD APPARENTLY WASTED $7,500 ON DISNEY+ GIFT CARDS!!
Even worse, grandma and grandpa scratched the numbers off the back of the gift cards when they tried to redeem them, so they were ineligible for return.
Man, this is like its very own Christmas movie right here!
Here's the TikTok one of the siblings made of the incident:
Yeah, that went viral incredibly fast, and this lady even got invited to appear on CBS for her troubles. She took a lot of heat online for the post and I may or may not have been one of the hecklers shouting, "Why in the world did you wait until a week out from your vacation to pay for your vacation?!?!"
Anyhow, at some point they got ahold of Disney and had some employee fixing the problem one gift card at a time. My deepest condolences to that man.
In the end, they'll take the trip and maybe make some friends along the way. They're already internet famous, so I'm sure they'll be posing for more pictures than Mickey Mouse this next weekend. I'm not entirely sure which Disney location they are visiting and they probably kept that a secret on purpose.
What a great way to slide into the Christmas holiday for this family!
Thanks again, grandma and grandpa, for making this happen!
