Okay, we've all been there: phone ringing, number on the screen almost too familiar to not be a scam.

And we all have one simple strategy: ignore the call. It's the smart thing to do.

But what about when you're stranded in the Rockies?

Yup, a hiker apparently didn't return from an expedition on Mount Elbert, the highest peak in Colorado, earlier this month, so a search and rescue team was sent out to find them. The team couldn't find the hiker, so they started calling them on their cell phone.

The rest is classic history:

The hiker said they had no idea that crews were looking for them and ignored multiple phone calls from search and rescue crews because they didn't recognize the number.

😆😆😆

Didn't even send a text, like yo, who dis?

Also, did the rescue team leave a voicemail? They should've left a voicemail.

It's all good though:

The hiker told authorities they had lost the trail around nightfall and spent the night searching for the trail. The person found their car the next morning and returned home.

So let this be a very obvious message to all you adventurers out there:

LCSAR is asking those who may find themselves in a similar situation to answer their phones if they start to get repeated calls from an unknown number.

Answer the phone, bro!

Not everyone is as skilled as this hiker was.
