This lass was walking through the hurricane damage in her town and rescued an American flag among the rubble: "We're going to get through this" πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Sometimes, when you have no hope, you've got to search far and wide and make your own hope.

I just picked it up. I'm military so, you know, flags aren't supposed to touch the ground. And I mean, there's everything everywhere, people are looting and stuff. And I just figured just to pick this up.

I'm going to go home and wash it, and maybe put it up on my porch or something. I guess I saw this as a sign of, like, we're going to get through this. It might take a few months to recover but, um, you know, there's hope at the end of the day. You've gotta have faith.

All I can think of is the voice of Johnny Cash speaking of That Ragged Old Flag.

This young woman, appropriately named Destiny, saw devastation all around. She saw looting and awful people taking advantage of the tragedy. She saw demolished homes and whole cities destroyed.

Then she saw a lone American flag and found hope.

Salt of the earth in Appalachia.
