This man just crushed the world record marathon time in Chicago
· Oct 9, 2023 · NottheBee.com

Kelvin Kiptum of Kenya is the new record-holder for the fastest marathon time, at just 35 seconds past the two hour mark. This is an amazing feat, and he did it all without a coach.

Man, I don't even know if I could keep that pace with my bike, honestly.

Here's the scoop:

Kenyan Kelvin Kiptum broke the marathon world record to win the Chicago Marathon in 2 hours and 35 seconds, nearly breaking the two-hour barrier...

Kiptum, listed at 23 years old, broke countryman Eliud Kipchoge's world record of 2:01:09 set at the 2022 Berlin Marathon.

"A world record was not in my mind today," Kiptum said on NBC Chicago. "But I knew one day, one time I will be a world record holder."

Kiptum has run three career marathons — all in the last 10 months — and posted three of the six fastest times in history — 2:01:53 in Valencia, Spain, last December, followed by 2:01:25 in London in April.

Yeah dude, these guys are freakishly fast, and it looks like they've only just begun the battle for the world record. Eliud Kipchoge, another Kenyan, ran a 1:59:40.2 marathon back in 2019, but the event wasn't record-eligible.

Needless to say, I'm looking forward to more world records out of these guys.

And if I could give any bit of advice to either of these men, it'd be to Kiptum — the new world record holder — and I'd tell him to go find a coach. Seems like all the other guys have one, and you're probably at a disadvantage without one by your side.

Either way, keep up the good work, boys. You're killin' it out there!

And congrats to you, Kelvin Kiptum. You're the best... for now.
