Some people out there have a real big TikTok addiction, I'm telling you:
Some iPhone users never deleted TikTok during its brief ban in the U.S., and now some of those individuals are selling their phones for thousands of dollars on eBay as the popular app remains absent from Apple's App Store.
Users with the app downloaded on their phones can access the short-video platform that returned for millions in the U.S. on Sunday and Monday. While some can jump back on TikTok without a hitch, others who either deleted or never downloaded the app remain in the dark as the Apple and Google app stores in the U.S. still don't have it available.
When we report "thousands of dollars," we mean it: "[S]everal iPhone owners who have kept the app downloaded are now selling their brand-new or used phones for up to $25,000."
Refreshing your seller page constantly to see if your $25,000 iPhone has sold:
I think 25 grand is a lot to pay even if it comes pre-loaded with a ChiCom surveillance app! But who knows, maybe someone out there is desperate enough.
As USA Today notes, "most of the more than 2,000 phones being auctioned on eBay do not have active bids." The ones that do are "older iPhone models" going for closer to $200 max.
It was just last week that the Supreme Court upheld the U.S. ban on the app:
Though President Trump has moved to block the measure in a bid to "determine the appropriate course forward":
Not sure what'll happen next, but I'd say don't bid on that $5,000 iPhone either way!
