England Hockey, the governing body for field hockey in England, released the new guidelines this week.
Based on the current available evidence, and that hockey requires the physical capabilities of strength, endurance, speed and acceleration as key factors for success, hockey is considered a gender-affected sport. The new Trans and Non-Binary Participation Policy has been developed to ensure everyone can participate in the playing of hockey in a fair way. To enable this, England Hockey has created two categories of competition within hockey - a Female category and an Open category.
The new rules will take effect starting in September, which is great.
Again, England, if you weren't throwing people in prison for memes I'd give you a round of applause here.
I just hope there are no transgender asylum seekers on any of these hockey teams. If so, we could see the detention of anyone and everyone at England Hockey who helped create these new racist guidelines.
