Two people were dead and 20 others hospitalized after a fireworks accident early New Year's Day in Honolulu, authorities said.
Two people were declared dead at the scene and the other 20 victims were hospitalized in critical condition after the early morning explosion, Honolulu Emergency Medical Services told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. None of the victims has been identified.
The Honolulu Police Department issued an alert on X at about 1:45 a.m. saying the blast incurred multiple casualties. Police asked residents to avoid the Salt Lake-Aliamanu neighborhood, where the explosion occurred.
