Iranian soccer player faces possible punishment after hugging female fan

In the wake of the passing of Jimmy Carter, let's all thank him for what he helped turn Iran and the Middle East into, shall we?

Ramin Rezaeian, an Iranian soccer player, was called to the league office after a video showed him -GASP!- hugging a female fan.

Here's the shocking video:

Rezaeian, 34, plays for Tehran giants Esteghlal and used to be a regular member of Iran's national team. He embraced the female supporter before Esteghlal's match against Chadormalu in the central Yazd province on Thursday.

This, of course, is completely illegal in Iran. Because, well, I don't want to blame it all on Jimmy Carter again ... but let's just say that the radical regime in the country frowns upon male and female physical interaction.

In fact, this comes shortly after the country lifted the 40 year ban on females attending the games.

Yes, the very moment they finally decide to let girls go to soccer games the girls start illegally hugging the players, where does it stop?

This is not the first time Iranian football has taken disciplinary action over such incidents. In April, Esteghlal goalkeeper Hossein Hosseini was suspended for also embracing a female fan during a championship match. He was slapped with a hefty fine of three billion Iranian rials (approximately $4,500) and a one-game suspension.

The league hasn't yet announced any fine or punishment for Rezaeian after the hugging incident, but I am betting he's not getting away scot free.
