United Kingdom goes under total lockdown and then bans protests against lockdowns.

You might be wondering if this is this the same United Kingdom that was the birthplace of John Locke and Adam Smith, home of the Magna Carta, and crucible of many of the fundamental precepts of liberty and human freedom that form the foundation upon which the American experiment rests.

Yep, that's the one!

While the lockdown is extreme, it was absolutely necessary following a recent surge in people not getting infected.

Okay, that may not make sense, but you have to understand that it's absolutely essential that we follow the science.

No, not that science. Political science. That's a science, right?

Now shut up and go home.

And stay there. In fact, you aren't even allowed to leave the country.

"Anyone attempting to leave the country ‘without reasonable excuse' will now be fined up to £6,400."

Those East Germans? Maybe they were on to something after all.

I think we all owe Erich Honecker an apology.

You have to understand, it's for your safety and the safety of the ones you love.

Well, most of them, anyway.

There are, however, many ways in which this lockdown is less draconian than the first. For starters, universities are staying open so students are free to come on campus.

They just can't leave.

Think of it as being free to come and go as you please, only without the go part.
