Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro threatens to invade Puerto Rico to “liberate” it from US

Last week, the US government put a $25 million bounty on Nicolás Maduro, the dictator of Venezuela, as he was illegally sworn in as president.

By all accounts, Maduro lost the Venezuelan election in July, but he declared himself the victor by overwhelming margins (that's what commies do).

Maduro responded to the bounty by threatening to "liberate" Puerto Rico from the US.

'Just as in the north they have a colonization agenda, we have a liberation agenda,' Maduro said during the closing of the International Anti-Fascist Festival in Caracas on Saturday. 'And our agenda was written by Simón Bolívar. The freedom of Puerto Rico is pending, and we will achieve it with Brazilian troops ... leading the way.'

It sounds like he's calling for an open military invasion of US soil.

(Puerto Rico has been a US territory since 1898 and Puerto Ricans have been official US citizens since 1917.)

Republican Puerto Rican governor Jenniffer González-Colón sent a letter to President-elect Trump asking for help securing Puerto Rico's borders.

'This is an open threat to the United States, our national security, and stability in the region,' González-Colón told Trump. 'I trust your incoming administration will swiftly respond and make clear to the Maduro regime that, under your leadership, the United States, will protect American lives and sovereignty and will not bow down to the threats of petty, murderous dictators.'

She reiterated how Puerto Rico is home to Fort Buchanan - the only U.S. Army installation in the Caribbean - and National Guard facilities like Camp Santiago, Fort Allen, and Muniz Air National Guard Base, 'all of which strategically support exercises and operations conducted by the U.S. military and our partners.' The letter went on to say how Puerto Rico also hosts 'critical U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Customs and Border Protection assets and units that help secure our borders and combat the drug trafficking networks that fund the Maduro narco-regime.'

Puerto Rico shares a maritime border with Venezuela, and it's wise to take any threats of an invasion by the South American country seriously.

'Maduro's calls for an invasion are a clear attempt to get rid of the United States' presence and grow his influence in the area,' González-Colón continued, telling Trump that she's 'ready to work with you and your administration to counter this and other threats posed by the illegitimate Maduro dictatorship and support the people of Venezuela in their quest for freedom.'

What has Biden done to our reputation that even a rinky-dink, communist dictator would imagine the idea that he could invade American soil, much less say it out loud?

Trump can't take office soon enough.
