With only a few days remaining before Donald Trump takes his place behind the desk in the Oval Office, Iran wanted to be sure he didn't take their plots to assassinate him seriously.
Despite the U.S. Justice Department charging an Iranian national last fall with plotting to kill Trump, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian spoke with NBC News and vehemently denied any scheme ever existed:
We have never attempted this to begin with and we never will.
Pezeshkian instead blamed Israel, because … well, that's what Iran does:
This is another one of those schemes that Israel and other countries are designing to promote Iranophobia. ... Iran has never attempted to nor does it plan to assassinate anyone. At least as far as I know.
Well, Masoud, you're the president of the country, so if someone would know, it would probably be you.
Watch him talk to Lester Holt, who spends several minutes trying to make Donald Trump look bad compared to ... the brutal Iranian regime.
Holt could have pushed back at any time, but I guess the budget is tight at NBC News, so it's up to me to do his job for him.
In 2022, Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, shared a CGI video of an Iranian drone strike on Mar-a-Lago with the words "Revenge Is Definite." 👇
NAH, DEFINITELY NO PLAN TO KILL TRUMP!
It's not rocket science, guys. Iran is lying through its teeth using its puppet president. Totalitarian Islamic dictators don't forget when one of their best buds and top commanders gets blown off the face of the earth (General Soleimani was killed by US drone strike "at the direction of" President Trump in 2020).
The real question?
Why is NBC's Lester Holt platforming Iran's lies with zero pushback?
