We've seen France burn to the ground in the recent riots, and things aren't slowing down.
A hard-to-watch clip has gone viral, with over 3.5 million views on Twitter, of a church burning to the ground.
Seeing a church in flames always hurts, but this one is especially painful...
The clip shows the steeple of Église Notre-Dame de Drosnay, a 16th-century Catholic Church in Drosnay, France, engulfed in flames.
Built in the early years of the 17th century, it is made up of an important nave of seven bays with side aisles and a choir with a polygonal apse.
The first four bays of the nave, no doubt raised during a second campaign of works, are a little narrower and differ in the arrangement of the timbers and the shape of the openings from the rest of the building.
Inside you can admire the high altar and its altarpiece dating from 1667 as well as all the paneling from the 18th century. In the chapel of the Virgin, south aisle, a beautiful 16th century stained glass window from the Trojan glass painting workshops depicts the Tree of Jesse.
Here are some photos of the priceless piece of cultural heritage:
Even though the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, promised to protect them, churches are being destroyed all over France since the riots began.
An arrest was made for another church set ablaze, and luckily, firefighters were at least able to save what was left of that one.
The violence isn't stopping at arson. Police are investigating an assault on a Catholic priest in which a Muslim gang shouted "Dirty Christian" at yet another church.
Churches are quite literally under fire in France. In 2021, over 48 churches were burned down in Canada. And just last month, a church was set on fire in Orlando on the anniversary of the overturn of Roe. vs. Wade.
No matter what the issue is, it is always the church that is the target.
The direct attack on the church is a scary thing. A world without the church is even scarier.
The Drosnay community is accepting donations to try to rebuild their church.
On Friday July 7, 2023 at 12 p.m., a fire COMPLETELY destroyed this half-timbered church in the Champagne bocage; it is part of the circuit of 13 half-timbered churches unique in Europe or even in the world; our goal is to rebuild it identically (we are supported in this project by the public authorities and the buildings of France) but it will take funds, a lot of funds We are counting on solidarity to rebuild this building symbol of regional heritage
