It's back, baby!
On Tuesday morning, Electronic Arts (EA), announced the return of one of their most iconic games.
Yes! College football is coming back to the video game world, brought to you by the company that made it great.
As soon as the news broke the phrase "IT'S HAPPENING" began trending on Twitter. EA has not made a new College Football game since the 2014 edition after a lawsuit where EA was sued for image and likeness violations.
EA Sports announced it would stop making its college football game in 2013 shortly before the company agreed to pay part of a reported $40 million to former college players to settle a lawsuit filed by former UCLA basketball player Ed O'Bannon. The lawsuit argued that it was illegal for EA Sports to sell a game with characters that looked strikingly similar to real athletes without paying those athletes.
Additionally, the game will drop the name "NCAA Football" in favor of "EA Sports College Football," mostly because the NCAA is not exactly on board with the move from EA and does not want to be associated with the game.
But I say, a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet. Well, maybe Shakespeare said it, but I agree. Call it whatever you want, college football is back on newer generation video game consoles, and that is news worth celebrating.
