Not the kind of situation any clergyman wants to find himself in:
I do love how the priest just commits to the, "It's alright, just calm down. It's okay, buddy. It's alright."
The Rev. David Gaines, parochial vicar at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes in Spokane, Wash., was praying alongside Bishop Thomas Daly when the man launched his attack.
The assault occurred during the church's second night [of] the Lourdes Novena for Healing, a series of nine days of prayers for healing culminating with the Feast of the Lady of Lourdes, the patron saint of healing, peace and the sick.
You can see this guy really got a running start — and even put up a fight afterwards:
Thankfully a number of parishioners assisted in subduing the man:
That's the kind of showing that will make a parish priest proud.
There were no injuries, and the assailant "was handcuffed and led out of the cathedral by several men in attendance," and was later "charged with assault and trespassing."
Rev. Gaines led a prayer for the "disturbed gentlemen" as the mass resumed.
